ELECRIC INSTRUMENTS, PICKUPS & AMPLIFIERS

Having for many years been requested to stock a range of Pickups and Electric Instruments, we have now included this in our range. We feel that younger players, in particular, need to be encouraged and to experiment. Peer pressure is a powerful motivational tool. Many new `pop' groups include string players, however amplification is usually required to perform in public. Therefore we will be stocking not only the instruments, and pickups, but also the appropriate amplification systems. We also offer a service and repair facility for most amplifers. We have equipped our trying out room with the best sound system available, so you can try out the various Instruments and Pickups, (unless they are a Luthier fit), prior to purchasing. INSTRUMENTS We are main distributors for`Yamaha'`Bridge'and `Carlo Giordano' range of Electric Instruments, however we appreciate that there are many other fine instruments on the market, and to this end will continuallyreview our stocks. These instruments cover a wide range of prices and sound qualities. If you require a instrument that we do not usually stock, be assured that we will be able to source this, rapidly, and probably less expensively than elsewhere.

VIVO ² ELECTRIC VIOLIN Not previously available in the U.K., as although made here all were exported to U.S.A.. We have now become the sole U.K. agents for this superb violin. Made in Translucent Acrylic, in either blue, purple or clear, they not only look great, but the sound matches its looks. So good that *Vanessa Mae* uses one! BRIDGE `HAND MADE' ELECTRIC VIOLINS (to order) These fine British instruments are available with 4 or 5 strings. They are strongly constructed with a Carbon Fibre and Kevlar Composite shell and the headstock and neck from a single maple Block, based on the 1710 Stradivari Viola da Gamba head. The fingerboard and pegs and top nut are ebony, and it is strung with Thomastik Superflexible strings. The instruments are fitted with the patented Bridge pickup, with Volume and tone controls, terminated with a ¼" jack socket and only use a slimline button cell battery. They are available in a range of colours, Black, Purple, Blue, Red and White, however many additional custom colours are available. SILENT VIOLINS SV-120 This is the least expensive of Yamaha's Silent Violins, but it is still full of features, and the playing results are excellent. Designed for silent practicing, using the supplied headphones, and has an input jack to enable you to play along with a music source, e.g. a CD Player. It has built in reverb options to give you the effect of playing in a large room or theatre. It can of course also be plugged into an amplifier, and used as an electric violin. SILENT ELECTRIC VIOLAS SVV-200 This Concert standard Silent Viola is of the same design and specification as the SV-200 Violin. PICKUPS We are aware that many pickups in the past have not been very good at displaying your instruments unique sound, but have just made it loud. To this end, we are continually reviewing the available range. We will only stock those that meet our discerning standard, but of course, if you have a specific requirement, we will be pleased to oblige. Whilst we endeavour to keep abreast of all of the new innovations, we are always pleased to listen to you, should you read or hear of a product that we should be considering. We also prefer recommending twin pickups, in the case of the cello & bass, as this gives a much more open and clear sound.

LR BAGGS This pickup is a miniature vibration transducer cast directly into an Aubert #7 Mirecourt maple bridge for maximum sensitivity and signal transfer. As an integral part of the bridge, it effortlessly captures the instrument's inherent dynamics. Furthermore, it's selective admittance pattern is aligned so that the signal is generated as the bridge moves in a left-right motion (in response to the string vibrations). JPB can order for rapid delivery any amplifier, mixer, or loudspeaker system, however we do recommend the Sienna range, specifically for the violin family. They have an impressive specification and features and are competitively priced. Grahic Equaliser, Digital Effects & 2 Instrument inputs (not 16W, which has analogue reverb & 1 input). A truly professional combo amp, at a realistic price. The Sienna range of amplifiers also feature 8 24 bit digital effects (not Sienna 16 which has a spring reverb instead) 2 instrument inputs, 3 band active filter, (4 band on Sienna 16), microphone input (not 16), and also a "sweepable feedback filter", to reduce the annoying whistle feedbacks.

We have now negotiated a special low price for the ever popular ZAR Acoustic Amplfiers. As with the Kustom Amplifiers, we have found by experience that the Acoustic Amplifers far out perform the normal Guitar amplifiers, in that the special built in equaliser enables the most realistic sounds to be produce from your Violin, Viola or Cello, whether it be an acoustic instrument with pickup, or a specific electric instrument. We would not really recommend these amplifiers for Double Basses, as really you need a much bigger speaker and power amplifier to adequately cope with lower frequencies. We would also recommend that for the Cello, you consider the 40 Watt model as opposed to the 20 Watt model. For Violin and Viola either amplifier is more than adequate, and your selection should be based upon power requirement, i.e. size of venue. The 20 Watt will more than cope with small halls and pub type venues, or for use at home, whereas the 40 watt would cope with larger halls, and small auditoriums. Larger auditoriums will usually have sound desks, so would supply the greater power necessary there.
